1. Ski Brule
Ski Brule Resort is situated in Iron River, Michigan, and it was founded in 1956 by Ernie McCullough, two-time men's international racing champion. The resort is known for having one of the longest open seasons, and a traditional structure. Ski Brule comprises of 17 runs serviced by 11 lifts. It has a large log cabin with authentic wood stoves and horse drawn sleds. The whole resort is family oriented, opting for a fun, relaxed atmosphere, rather than a competitive, charged one. Ski Brule employs a competent, welcoming staff and who's only goal is to provide excellent service. The resdort also offers ski lessons for those who need them. All lessons are provided by certified instructors for very reasonable prices. In fact, the whole resort is affordable as fas a ski resorts go.

Chestnut Mountain Resort is a full-service skiing facility which offers 17 different ski trails, and covers all skill levels, from novice to expert. It is a full service skiing and lodging facility located atop a wooded bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. It's longest trail is 3,500 feet in distance, while enjoying a vertical descent of 475 feet. It has top-of-the-line snowmaking and grooming systems, which allows skiiers the best ski surface available. It is serviced by three surface lifts, three triple chairs, and two quad chairs.

There is a reason why Mount Baker is often featured in skiing and snowboarding films; that reason is the fantastically beautiful view that the mountain presents. True, it's not a resort, but it's a worthwhile ski destination to try – almost half of the grand total of its trails are ranked as difficult, while not alienating less experienced skiers. The snowfall is also ideal here, as it ensures some good coverage. Great place to have a weekend getaway.

5. Wolfeboro
Wolfeboro is a cross-country and Nordic skiing facility that caters to everyone – from beginners to experts. There's 30 kilometers worth of cross-country ski trails here, all excellently groomed and maintained for the convenience of the skiers. Wolfeboro is also pretty private and easy on the pocket, which is a good deal considering they offer some really good tours.
