Williamette pass may be a humble ski area on federal land, but it hardly means that it's no fun. With one of the steepest runs in the world, it promises an adrenaline rush like no other. It also has two peaks to choose from, and offers some of the greatest skiing you can hope to have.

The Sitzmark Ski Area is better known for its ski lift and it's skiing, but it doesn't mean that it's not any fun at all. It's primarily a snow area for a family to have fun in, and a good place to get your kids into skiing – it has a decent ski school program for interested parties. Family events are held in this area regularly, the most popular being the No-Alibi Fun Ski and Craze-Zee Daze Fun Day.

Sundown Mountain is set within a spectacular century old cedar forest that makes the area look more like something from Colorado than Iowa. Sundown mountain is also quite far from major Midwest cities, thus limiting its clientele to a modest-sized loyal group. Among the midwest ski resorts, it is the only one to receive a National Ski Areas Association Award for Excellence. They offer great packages and programs for families, in its endeavor to foster closer familial ties. It's skiable vertical limit is one of the highest within 300 miles.
