The Badger Mountain Ski Area is a way to get it some skiing without the hassle of high prices. The trails and runs provide a challenge for skiers of any skill level. The area also has the benefit of being fairly uncrowded most of the time, so there would be little to no bothersome waiting for your turn. Paoli Peaks is situated about half an hour from Bloomington, Indiana and 50 minutes from Louisville, which makes the locals its primary market. College kids from Illinois University are one of their usual customer groups, as well as a large contingent of local high school students. Paoli parks is unusual in its built, with the lodge being located at the top, and the trails being away from the top. It has a total of 14 trails, though there are only 5 separate ways down. Also, if skiing or snowboarding is not your thing, there's a tubing area to take into consideration. The resort is open only from the end of December to start of March, a rather short duration compared to others. One of their biggest selling points is the Paoli midnight madness, which allows skiers to ski all night, even at three in the morning.

Cataloochee Ski Area is just four miles off U.S. 19 above Maggie Valley, North Carolina. It is accessible from Interstate-40. It has a skiable area of 25 acres and has a vertical drop of 740 feet. Cataloochee’s longest run is 3,500 feet known as Upper and Lower Snowbird. Cataloochee Ski Area is the first ski area to open in North Carolina in 2005-2006 winter season. Their skiing season is from November to April.
