1. Big Rock
The Big Rock skiing area advertises itself as “a big mountain experience with a small town feel” – and no one can actually say that it isn't accurate. Most of its trails are geared towards the intermediate skier, but given that it has about 60 acres worth of skiable area (including areas for cross-country skiing), it's not going to be much of a problem. For all that, Big Rock strives to make itself accessible to all who wish to engage in winter sports. An advocate of winter sports promotions, Big Rock hosts annual winter sports races as well.

A lot of Mt Crescent's patrons associate Iowa with the resort, owing to its nature. It is rather small, and rather simply made, but it still holds its own when it comes to the finer points of skiing. It has chairlifts and fairly easy trails-- no black diamonds, but then again, Iowa is not known for their ski trails. It has an excellent terrain park, making it a resort fit for novices, and people who want to keep in shape.
