Otis Ridge is one of those places that can be likened to a park, simply because it's a family place that has an “anything goes” feel. While it only has 11 trails over its 60 acres of ski-worthy area, the terrain is varied enough to challenge all skill levels. All the trails are, of course, augmented by snowmakers, in order to make the skiing experience smoother. Otis Ridge is a worthwhile ski experience.

Northfield Mountain Cross Country Ski Area is most definitely a great place to do your cross-country skiing. There, you get 25 miles worth of excellent skiing – whether you're into plain old traditional skiing or the more exciting freestyle stunts. There's something for all skill levels here as well: sedate beginner trails, scenic intermediate runs, and the 800-foot vertical Tenth Mountain Trail for the adrenaline junkies. Add the instructors for beginner and refresher courses, and you're set.

The Quechee Lakes Ski Area, part of the Quechee Club, offers some decent downhill and Nordic skiing. Most of the 13 trails are ideal for beginners and intermediate skiers, as the vertical drop is only 650 feet. The cross-country area is essentially their golf course. All of the ski areas are supported by snowmakers.

Boreal Mountain Resort is the home of the first and only all-mountain terrain park in Northern California. Pro Snowboarder David Benedek, the producer of 91 Words for Snow, was all praises for Boreal. Clearly, this resort is worth checking out.

Windblown is an exceptional family-owned cross-country skiing area that gives you a sense of that tranquility you need after dealing with the stressful hurly-burly of everyday life. At Windblown, you can share your cross-country skiing experience with your entire family because the forty kilometers worth of cross-country trails are suitable for all skill levels (12 kilometers of easy, 18 kilometers of intermediate and 10 kilometers of extremely difficult). The variety of trails is also rather breathtaking, making this a good place for recreational skiing.
