2. Pats Peak
Pats Peak is pretty small as far as ski resorts go, with only 22 trails to its name – and most of them for beginners to boot. Still, the fact that it offers night skiing on most of the mountain is something to look forward to, as is the fact that Pats Peak has some really steep and long pitches attached to its name. Pats Peak also has a challenging terrain park, but mostly Pat's Peak is about learning how to ski and perfecting what you've learned. More experienced skiers would probably want to stick to the Hurricane trail to slake their adrenaline thirst.

Mad River Glen has some very challenging trails, probably because of the mountain's unique qualities. It has some really long lines and excellent sights, which are very good for its 45 posted ski runs (with a legendary expert terrain and an interesting variety of lower-level ski trails). The trails are, however, ungroomed. It may not appeal to everyone for this reason, but those who like a challenge may want to try Mad River Glen.

The Berkshire East Ski Resort is said to be the most varied ski mountain in Southern New England. Available trails at the Berkshire East Resort range from beginner to extreme, and all 45 trails are maintained with snowmakers and are uncrowded for the most part. While only medium-sized compared to other ski resorts, this alpine ski area is nevertheless just as exciting as it packs in the fun. Accessible and open to the public, Berkshire East is a favorite ski area in Franklin County.

Shanty Creek Ski Resort is part of the many attractions offered by Shanty Creek Resorts-- the other attractions including a first-class golf club and course. The ski resort has a total of 400 acres of skiable terrain, all of which are well-groomed and in top condition. It has a total of 46 slopes, serviced by 11 lifts, which more or less guarantees a satisfactory trail to anyone, regardless of skill level. The snow in the area gets quite deep- around 17 feet each season, which just goes to work in the mountain's favor. Shanty Creek maintains a warm, friendly atmosphere, which makes it easy for most skiers to feel at home with it. It's vertical drop is medium at best-- measuring to 450 feet, but its insane diversity of trails and top-notch snow quality more than compensate for it.
