Lonesome Pine Trails is one of the good reasons to visit Maine during ski season. While it is definitely not as big and as well-advertised as some of the other skiing areas in Maine, Lonesome Pine Trails nevertheless offers some really good skiing experiences such as the 400-foot vertical that you can ski at night, glade skiing and the terrain park. The area is ideal for Nordic skiing, and the natural snowfall makes the experience of skiing there even better.

The Summit at Snoqualmie could only be described as a mega-ski resort, as it has four base areas – Alpental, Summit West, Summit East and Summit Central – all of which are practically individual ski resorts themselves. Being such an enormous resort, the Summit at Snoqualmie obviously offers something for everyone: beginner to expert, alpine skier or Nordic skier, you're bound to find challenge and enjoyment here. So whether you're a safe skier or a thrill skier, you should try having a go at The Summit at Snoqualmie.

Camden Snowbowl is a fairly popular community-owned ski area whose claim to fame is a spectacular view of the Atlantic Ocean. Apart from the view that you can leisurely enjoy as you ski down the mountain, the Camden Snowbowl has ten trails and a terrain park for both alpine and cross-country skiing. The Camden Snowbowl also offers quality skiing education, and runs a good youth racing program. Obviously, this isn't for the thrill-seekers.

Eaton Mountain is a year-round resort, but in our opinion it only truly shines in the winter when we get to ski there. It's a fairly modest family-run business, but with an area that is varied enough to accommodate the beginner, intermediate and advanced skiers, who can complain? Besides, it has 622 vertical feet worth of skiing area that you can take advantage of at night – yes, they offer night skiing, too. The fact that they're also one of the earliest ski resorts to open its ski facilities in Maine is also a plus.
