Hoodoo Mountain
Hoodoo Mountain is a ski resort on federal land, with 806 acres of skiable area. It has 29 runs and a vertical drop of 1,305 feet. Its skiing terrain is fairly divided between skill levels, although the more difficult trails gain more attention. It offers some really great alpine and Nordic skiing for the visitor. Worth a look indeed.

1. Northfield
Northfield Mountain Cross Country Ski Area is most definitely a great place to do your cross-country skiing. There, you get 25 miles worth of excellent skiing – whether you're into plain old traditional skiing or the more exciting freestyle stunts. There's something for all skill levels here as well: sedate beginner trails, scenic intermediate runs, and the 800-foot vertical Tenth Mountain Trail for the adrenaline junkies. Add the instructors for beginner and refresher courses, and you're set.

Despite being called Bear Creek Mountain Ski Club, Bear Creek Mountain Club is, in actuality, a very, very private resort you can take your family to. Its sixteen trails are equally divided between novices and the intermediates. Non-members of the club have limited access to the exquisitely-groomed trails; members, however, get some really great perks – namely a good bit of privacy and convenience (they don't have to compete for trails and lifts).

The Big Squaw Mountain Resort is known for its spectacular views and old-fashioned New England skiing, with 33 trails fairly divided among skill levels of skiers. Its manufactured snow boasts of quality that makes skiing ideal and convenient for both professional and novice skiers. This, coupled with the scenic trails offered naturally by the terrain, makes for an enjoyable experience for all visitors. It may not promise adrenaline-pumping experiences, but it does promise unforgettable moments.

4. Villa Olivia
Villa Olivia Ski Resort is part of the many activities offered by Villa Olivia Country Club in Bartlett, Illinois. It makes for a wonderful family getaway, especially with little kids involved. Granted, its kid-friendly nature doesn't allow for very challenging slopes (only around 180 feet vertical distance), but they are enough to have lots of wholesome family fun in. It has a total of 9 slopes with 6 different ski-lifts. It also has a wide choice of hotel rooms, for those who come from afar. Its ski hill has 9 slopes, with 6 different ski lifts servicing it to enable skiers to get up the hill efficiently and quickly.

Mount Hood Skibowl is pretty famous for a very good reason – it is the largest night ski area in America. It has 34 lit runs (out of 65 trails) in its 960 ski-worthy acres, and the most number of night skiing hours for a reasonable price. Mount Hood Skibowl also has lighted terrain parks, where the thrill seekers can have their own fun challenge.
