Black Mountain of Maine
Black Mountian of Maine is one of those family-friendly affairs that you just can't resist visiting. After all, it is known for having some of the best Nordic skiing facilities (and has in fact hosted many cross-country skiing championships), which would be cool not only for the kids, but also for the adrenaline junkie adults. But it also has the standard downhill skiing trails and terrain parks for the traditionalists and lessons for beginners. Black Mountain of Maine also offers night skiing for you guys who like excitement.

Alpine Valley is situated in White Lakes, Michigan. It is reputed to be the biggest ski area in Southern Michigan, hosting a total of 25 runs, which are all serviced by 10 chairlifts and rope tows. They also have a halfpipe, measuring a length of 350 feet and a height of 10 feet. Throughout the whole terrain are strategically placed ramps, rails and launches. The scenery itself is stunning, where a line of trees grace the slopes, giving the whole resort a rather picturesque quality to it. Beginners, intermediate and expert skiers will have something to suit their preferences in this beautiful place. They also offer skiing and snowboarding lessons, with their “Gold Merit” Instruction Center, which is staffed by a competent group of well-trained instructors.

The Summit at Snoqualmie could only be described as a mega-ski resort, as it has four base areas – Alpental, Summit West, Summit East and Summit Central – all of which are practically individual ski resorts themselves. Being such an enormous resort, the Summit at Snoqualmie obviously offers something for everyone: beginner to expert, alpine skier or Nordic skier, you're bound to find challenge and enjoyment here. So whether you're a safe skier or a thrill skier, you should try having a go at The Summit at Snoqualmie.

Hickory Hill boasts of 27 kilometers of classic tracks which are home to eight ski trails. While some may think that it's pretty small, other would argue that it's not the size that matters – we agree. You get a lot of quality ski tours out of Hickory Hill; the night skiing is recommended. The Hickory Hill Ski Touring Center is open to groups.

Lonesome Pine Trails is one of the good reasons to visit Maine during ski season. While it is definitely not as big and as well-advertised as some of the other skiing areas in Maine, Lonesome Pine Trails nevertheless offers some really good skiing experiences such as the 400-foot vertical that you can ski at night, glade skiing and the terrain park. The area is ideal for Nordic skiing, and the natural snowfall makes the experience of skiing there even better.

Active Backwoods Retreats has over 600 acres of private skiable terrain, with facilities that include cabins with heaters and light concessions, full service ski shop, change rooms, indoor restrooms and a fairly large ski wax area. The resort caters more to cross country skiing than anything else; as such, it has limited alpine skiing.
