2. Canyon Ski Area

Canyon Ski Area is situated 10 kilometers east of Red Deer, along the David Thompson Highway. This ski resort features a vertical drop of 146 meters, 5 lifts, thirteen runs, one triple chair, one double chair and handle tow. The Canyon Ski Area is the first ski resort established in Canada.

3. Castle Mountain

Located in the picturesque Westcastle Valley is the Castle Mountain Resort. The Castle Mountain features 67 ski trails, six lifts that rises to about 225 to 450 meters above the ground. Castle Mountain first opened in 1965, since then it undergone renovations to better provide for the needs of ski enthusiast from across the globe.

Amidst the flat Alberta prairies, is an impressive ski resort called the Drumheller Valley Ski Club. The ski area has a base elevation of 2,325 feet and maximum elevation of 2,700 feet. Drumheller Valley Ski Club features five runs, one lift, and a plethora of lodging and entertainment possibilities available. Its other amenities include ski and snowboard rentals, ski lessons, night skiing and full ski patrol coverage.

5. Apex Mountain Resort

Beaconsfield Mountain is the home of Apex Mountain Resort, a ski resort accessible just west of Penticton, BC, Canada. Apex mountain's summit elevation reaches 2187 meters, receiving an average of 600 centimeters of snow per year. Ski friendly terrain spans out to 1112 acres, or 4.5 kilometers, with some cross-country terrain. A total of four lifts, including a high speed quad allows skiers to test out any and all of the 67 named trails. The Apex Mountain Resort is a quaint, secluded resort that also makes it possible for visitors to experience privacy and enjoy the quiet mountainside minus the hassles of overcrowding.

6. Big White Ski Resort

Located 56 kilometers (35 miles) southeast of Kelowna in the British Columbia Exterior is the Big White Ski Resort. Also known as simply Big White, this ski resort is known as the second largest resort in British Columbia, and one of the biggest resorts in the entire area of North America. The vertical drop from the 2,319 meter mountain summit is 777 meters, and is serviced by 16 lifts. And with 38 acres available for night skiing, Big White has western Canada's biggest area for night skiing out of all resorts in the region.

7. Cypress Mountain

Cypress Mountain in Canada is located at West Vancouver, British Columbia. Just a 20 minute drive north of Vancouver, Cypress Mountain has a total of 51 named ski runs, with some available for night skiing. Aside from the skiing, visitors can also enjoy snowshoeing tours and other activities. Other services available include ski schools and rentals, a cafeteria and lounge, and accessibility for the many retail shops located around its perimeter.

Fernie Alpine Resort, near the town of Fernie, British Columbia, Canada, is particularly known for its high annual snowfall. 9. Kicking Horse Resort

One of newest resorts in Canada is the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, located 14 kilometers outside of Golden, British Columbia. The Kicking Horse features the current third highest vertical drop in all of North America. The drop hits the 4,133 feet mark (or 1,260 meters), and is only 6 feet shorter than Jackson Hole. The resort also holds 2,750 acres of skiable land area, accessible via their lift services.

10. Whispering Pines

What started off as a miniscule ski area, become a popular resort frequented by a lot of ski enthusiast foreigners and locals alike. The Whispering Pines is located in the north and east slope of Clear Hills, Northern Alberta. This ski resort features good snow condition, 2 Doppelmayr T-Bars, Borer Handle Two, and a number of impressive runs. Whether you are a beginner or expert skier, there is something for you in Whispering Pines.
