4. 49 Degrees North Mountain Resort

There are reasons why 49 Degrees North Mountain Resort (“49” to the regulars) is thought to be the best family resort in the region. For one thing, the trails range from beginner skill level terrain to double black runs – which means everyone in the family, no matter what skill level, has something to be excited about. The trails are also impeccably groomed, and the dry snow makes your skiing experience truly special. The fact that the view is fantastic can't hurt either.

5. Crystal Mountain

If you were asked to describe Crystal Mountain using only one word, consider using “gnarly” (if you're prone to excitement) or “challenging” (if you're tame), because the terrain is vast AND difficult for the most part. The snow is deep, the trails are generally rugged, and expert skiers will appreciate that kind of thing. That doesn't mean that novice skiers don't have a snowball's chance in hell here, though – some of the trails are pretty mild. But mostly, this is for experienced skiers.

6. Mount Baker

There is a reason why Mount Baker is often featured in skiing and snowboarding films; that reason is the fantastically beautiful view that the mountain presents. Apart from that, the overall natural feel of the mountain adds to the skiing experience, making the runs, trails and terrains all the more exciting and challenging for skiers of all levels. Anyone who likes unpolished and challenging terrain will be able to appreciate Mount Baker.

7. Sitzmark Ski Area

The Sitzmark Ski Area is better known for its ski lift and it's skiing, but it doesn't mean that it's not any fun at all. It's primarily a snow area for a family to have fun in, and a good place to get your kids into skiing – it has a decent ski school program for interested parties. Family events are held in this area regularly, the most popular being the No-Alibi Fun Ski and Craze-Zee Daze Fun Day.

9. White Pass

White Pass is not only a beautiful testament to the wonders of nature, it's also one heck of a ski. There is enough variety in the terrain to keep anyone interested: gentle slopes and blood-pumping steeps are there for inexperienced and experienced skiers alike. The natural challenge of the terrain is quite appealing, but what is most appealing is the resort's dedication to a good family vacation. No matter who you are as a skier, White Pass will make you feel welcome.
