12. Nor-Ski Runs

Nor-ski is a community ski area, though it is only open when conditions allow it to. It offers both alpine skiing and snowboarding, over a terrain of 30 skiable acres. It doesn't have its own ski school and lodge, but there are places within the vicinity where one may learn skiing lessons or stay. Most of its patrons are locals and big families who just want to let loose and have fun without paying much.

13. Fun Valley Ski Resort

Fun Valley is situated in the heart of Iowa. It is a resort that utilizes manual snowmaking in 90% of its terrain. Its trails are mostly geared towards skiers in beginner and intermediate levels and families with little kids, which makes it an ideal ski area for people who want to learn how to ski. Aside from skiing, it has a half-pipe to keep snowboarders entertained, as well as formal lessons and rentals.

14. Mount Crescent Ski Resort

A lot of Mt Crescent's patrons associate Iowa with the resort, owing to its nature. It is rather small, and rather simply made, but it still holds its own when it comes to the finer points of skiing. It has chairlifts and fairly easy trails-- no black diamonds, but then again, Iowa is not known for their ski trails. It has an excellent terrain park, making it a resort fit for novices, and people who want to keep in shape.

15. Riverside Hills Ski Resort

Riverside Hills Ski Resort's most frequent customers are skiers with intermediate to advanced levels of experience. Despite its modest vertical dropn (190 feet) and small number of trails, most of the areas are not suitable for beginners, although they do have a steady area for those not confident enough to try the more difficult terrain.

16. Lutsen Mountain Ski Resort

Lutsen Mountains Ski Resort is reputed to be the highest and largest skiing resort in the midwest plains of Minnesota, and is easily one of the best in the Midwest. It is comprised of over four mountains, and has the only gondola in the state, along with Nordic ski tracks. It also has 60 acres just for tree skiing, a size twice as large as some other ski resorts in the Midwest, and a whopping 1,000 acres of total skiable terrain, with 90 different ski runs.

Afton Alps Ski Resor is situated just minutes away from the Twin Cities of Minnesota. It is a comparatively large ski and snowboard resort, with a total of 250 skiable acres, containing 48 trails supported by 21 lifts. All areas of the resort are supported by 100% snowmaking apparati, and it has the largest Ski & Board Demo Center in the Midwest.

18. Andes Tower Hills

Andes Tower Hills is one of the best family-oriented ski areas in Minnesota, with its friendly, wholesome atmosphere, attractive rates and zero alcohol tolerance. It's not a sprawling resort, but it is big enough to prevent boredom for even the most accomplished skier. It is a great place both to hone one's techniques, or to begin learning.

19. Wild Mountain

Wild Mountain is considered to be the Killington of the midwest -it's a resort that isn't as expansive as most (though it has a sizeable terrain of 100 acres), but usually beats other resorts out in terms of earliest opening. It has excellent grooming and snow conditions. It's only an hour away from Twin Cities, and serves its purpose well as a metro area resort.

20. Spirit Mountain

Spirit Mountain's location is one of its most attractive attributes, being minutes away from downtown Deluth. It also has a packed calendar, with events being held almost on a weekly basis. It's terrain is friendly to both skiers and snowboarders of all skil levels, and the slopes afford a fantastic view of Lake Superior and St. Louis bay. Most of its patrons claim it to be fun, and convenient-- a great place to spend the day with friends and family.
