Mount Hood Skibowl also has lighted terrain parks, where the thrill seekers can have their own fun challenge.

33. Summit Ski Area

The Summit Ski Area is the oldest ski area in the Pacific Northwest; in fact, it is the first one in Mount Hood. It's a family-friendly place, meaning that its six runs may not be up to par with what adrenaline junkies want. Still, a good place to check out on a vacation. It has a timed race course, some good cross-country skiing, and a wicked half-pipe.

34. Timberline Lodge

Timberline Lodge is above the ski-permissible terrain, which pretty much adds to the appeal of the place. It has 32 runs, a 17-foot Superpipe, a half-pipe and jib park. The terrain is varied enough to accommodate all skill levels of skiing, although much of it is being developed for beginners. Also, Timberline Lodge offers year-round skiing – the only resort of its kind in North America, as far as we know.

36. Warner Canyon

Warner Canyon my be just a community ski area that's really not that big at all, but it's a great place to take the kids to. Most of the slopes are for beginners and intermediates, so more experienced skiers will not find the challenge they want here. Still, this area run by the Fremont Highlander Ski Club is good for a relaxing ski and a day of fun.

37. 49 Degrees North Mountain Resort

There are reasons why 49 Degrees North Mountain Resort (“49” to the regulars) is thought to be the best family resort in the region. For one thing, the trails range from beginner skill level terrain to double black runs – which means everyone in the family, no matter what skill level, has something to be excited about. The trails are also impeccably groomed, and the dry snow makes your skiing experience truly special. The fact that the view is fantastic can't hurt either.

39. Bluewood

The snow is powdery and there's a trail for everyone. The grooming could only be called excellent, befitting of the kind of snow and skiing that you can only find and get in Bluewood – at least, in the Northwest. And because of the abundance of timber, you can get the best tree skiing in the area here. Slopes, moguls, and the like give you the challenge you're craving.

40. Crystal Mountain

If you were asked to describe Crystal Mountain using only one word, consider using “gnarly” (if you're prone to excitement) or “challenging” (if you're tame), because the terrain is vast AND difficult for the most part. The snow is deep, the trails are generally rugged, and expert skiers will appreciate that kind of thing. That doesn't mean that novice skiers don't have a snowball's chance in hell here, though – some of the trails are pretty mild. But mostly, this is for experienced skiers.
